We had to post and save this classic! Fiji rugby sevens player Semi Kunatani is smashed to the ground by Scotland’s Lee Jones in the dead ball area. Ultimately, it didn’t matter, as Fiji won the title.
It wasn’t as if Semi was “show boating” or anything, he was probably just trying to catch his breath, but Lee Jones shows a great “never give up” attitude here. Every point counts!
Fiji were playing Scotland in a Pool C clash at the Gold Coast Sevens in Australia when Kunatani sped through the Scottish defensive line and steamed in for what looked like a certain 5 points.
But Kunatani’s pulled up early and cruised over the try-line before stopping just before the dead ball area. Jones sprinted back to take out the rugby player with a thumping tackle.
The ball went spinning out of the Fijian’s hands. No try!
Fiji later cruised to a 40-7 victory over the Scots, so it was a short lived triumph.
Lesson learned, I guess. Kunatani will be grounding those balls quicker next time.
